Chris "Mac Daddy" Kelly, one half of 1990s hip hop duo Kris Kross was found dead yesterday. According to reports, the cause of death may have been drug induced as his friend Donna reported to the police "the night before Kelly’s medical emergency, he had taken a mixture of heroin and cocaine."
A statement from his mother and the So So Def camp read as follows:
It is with deep sadness that we announce that our beloved Chris Kelly has passed away on May 1. To millions of fans worldwide, he was the trendsetting, backwards pants-wearing one-half of Kris Kross who loved making music. But to us, he was just Chris -- the kind, generous and fun-loving life of the party. Though he was only with us a short time, we feel blessed to have been able to share some incredible moments with him. His legacy will live on through his music, and we will forever love him. -- Donna Kelly Pratte (mother) & The So So Def Family
The duo made a splash into the hip hop with their hit "Jump" in 1992. The single was featured on their album Totally Krossed out. The multi-platim album was followed by Da Bomb and Young, Rich, & Dangerous. The duo also reunited earlier this year performing for So So Def's 20th anniversary show in Atlanta, Georgia.
