It’s close to seven years since the last proper Daft Punk album, Human After All, and there’s been very little news about any new work from the duo. That’s not surprising—the Daft Punk camp typically keeps things quiet. But former Chic guitarist Nile Rodgers may have just dropped a hint about the possible direction in which Daft Punk are currently heading.
"Those guys are great,” he said about the duo, in an interview with Houston Culture Map. “They're coming to my apartment on Monday and we’re going to talk about making a new record together." And that was the point where a local Houston publication found itself straining under a deluge of traffic from the music blogosphere.
Sadly, the journalist in question didn’t push Rodgers for any further information on the project, but the idea of him laying down his untouchable trademark riffs over new Daft Punk material is certainly intriguing. It may be a collaboration that comes to nothing, but at least we know Daft Punk are out there working on what will presumably be a new full-length album.
