You can’t keep a good brand down for long. Legendary New York club CBGB may have disappeared from the city six years ago, but its memory is hard to shake. Now, a festival bearing the name of the club has been announced, which will take place in New York City over July 4-8 this year.
It’s not clear yet who will be laying this event—there’s a link on the still-active CBGB website for any artists interested in performing. Presumably former CBGBs mainstays like Blondie won’t have to apply that way. The site also promises it will be “one of New York’s largest and most energetic music events in recent history.”
The Sonicbids website has a few further details on the event, claiming it will be spread over Manhattan and Brooklyn, and will feature “four energy-fueled days & nights of music, rock-n-roll films, insider-industry workshops, and intimate storytelling.” Sounds like CBGB might be muscling in on the kind of territory CMJ and the Northside Festival have staked out.
