Continuing a tradition begun in 2006, the witty music writers over at Catbirdseat have offered up another handy-dandy end of the year best albums cheat-sheet. The guide is divided into three hierarchical tiers, as well as a host of wildcards. Once again, the site seems to get things quite right, what with the great works put in this year by the National, Animal Collective, and Panda Bear all in the top tier. Albums below that come from the likes of Spoon, Battles, Okkervil River, and Beirut. Hilarious wildcard categories include "I have no idea what this even is, but there's a 75% chance it will make your list" (for The Field's From Here We Go Sublime) and "Bonus Pitchfork points" (take one easy guess as to which band gets the most of those). Take a gander and see if you find anything missing or there that shouldn't be. For the first, I'd nominate Electrelane's No Shouts, No Calls. For the second, I have to say I think Andrew Bird's Armchair Apocrypha is really good, but not as great as his Prefix 2005 album of the year Mysterious Production of Eggs.

I think the backlash that comes from a ton of Pitchfork prompting is natural, but often unfortunate. I mean they can be annoying and still be generally right, you know. Though I'm definitely not boarding the Black Kids train... |

This thing is about LPs, and so far Black Kids and Vampire Weekend have only released EPs. |

Chemical Toilet is the best band I've heard this year. |

i really like the andrew bird cd. even if it's not as good as "eggs" it's still better than a lot of records i've heard this year. conversely, i would say that the battles record is easily my favorite thing they've done so far, but it won't be making my list. |

Chemical Toilet is alright, but I'm more of an Electric Dream Machine fan myself. |

Jeff K,Pecan Sandies is also a great band. "Dayman" is the best song I heard this year. |

aren't A Place to Bury Strangers and Black Kids getting a lot of blog or maybe Pfork love lately?
