Cat Power To Record New Album Solo

Over the course of her career Chan Marshall, the woman behind Cat Power, moved from intimate singer-songwriter stylings on 1998's Moon Pix to neo-Stax frontwoman vigor on 2006's The Greatest. Now she's starting work on a new album that will see Marshall returning to the studio by herself.

Marshall told an Australian newspaper that she will be recording the follow up to her 2008 covers record Jukebox without collaboration from the Dirty Delta Blues Band, which features members of Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and Dirty Three and worked with Chan on The Greatest.

Chan always has been at her most intriguing with the fewest walls between her and the listener, so it will be interesting to hear Marshall striking out on her own once again, something she hasn't done since 2003's You Are Free. [Spinner]

I like blues as much as the next guy, but this strikes me as a welcome return.

Jukebox was one of the worst albums I've ever heard. She's capable of so much more. I hope she gets back to her early stuff. She's one of our best singer/songwriters. There's so much crap out there, I put on one of her albums and it's like a huge sigh of relief.
