Anyone wondering what Carlos D’s sartorial preferences would be during the promotional stint for the forthcoming Interpol album need speculate no more. The bass player has suddenly quit the band just as that record looks set to surface, with a message on the Interpol website announcing his departure:
“After the completion of the album, Carlos informed the rest of us that he would be leaving the band,” the brief statement reads. “He has decided to follow another path, and to pursue new goals. This separation is amicable, and we whole-heartedly wish him great happiness and success. We will remain, as always, deeply respectful fans of this blazingly talented individual.”
As the statement indicates, Carlos D does appear on that new Interpol record, but he will be replaced by “some very exciting new recruits” according to the site—such was Carlos’s presence in the band, that it will clearly take more than one person to replace him. Sadly, without their charismatic bass player in the group, the prospect of that new Interpol record just got a little less appetizing.
