Beginning in Chicago in mid-February, Calvin Johnson is taking his burlap sack of a voice to the hidden corners of America. And he's bringing along a nice smorgasbord of guests. The founder of K Records and the Dub Narcotic recording studio released his latest sonic stick sculpture last year with the Sons of the Soil, following a couple of acoustic solo works. For more of Johnson's unmannered charm, check out the Beat Happening, his collaborations with Doug Martsch in the Halo Benders, and the left-field funk of Dub Narcotic Sound System.

Back in the day my friend asked Calvin if the Halo Benders would make another album because he was such a big Built To Spill fan, and Calvin said: "Dude. The Halo Benders and Built To Spill are two totally different bands. Hate to tell you."
