Although we were unaware of it happening last year, apparently the folks behind hedonistic desert festival Burning Man ran into some trouble in 2011 when tickets sold out for the first time ever. So, this year, they decided to make it "fair" by putting together a lottery system rather than your typical first-come, first-serve style of ticket sales. Well, the organizers apparently weren't ready for some 80,000 people to register for the lottery, which has in turn shot up the cost of tickets on sites such as Craigslist and StubHub. A ticket that originally cost between $240 and $390 is now going for upwards of $5,000. Yeah, um, who would have thought this would happen? [TDS/NYT]
