Buju Banton's Appeal Denied, 10-Year Sentence Upheld

Last February reggae singer Buju Banton, whose real name is Mark Myrie, was convicted on cocaine trafficking and conspiracy charges. He was subsequently sentenced to a 10-year prison term. Banton's attorney sought to appeal in July, but was struck down by a federal judge yesterday who sided with a previous appeals court ruling. Banton is currently facing a 10-year sentence for the drug charges, but could face an added five due to a gun charge as well. [Billboard]
