Adam Yauch was a classic “local boy does good” story. He was born and died in Brooklyn, repped it for his whole life, and now his community is gearing up to acknowledge his fealty. A group of Brooklyn locals are petitioning to rename Squibb Park, currently named after one of the founders of Bristol-Meyer-Squibb, in Brooklyn Heights after the fallen Beastie. Bandmate Adam Horovitz has proposed an alternate park, in order to avoid conflict with the Squibb family. No matter where it gets redubbed in Brooklyn, it’ll be great to see one of Brooklyn’s foremost emissaries honored. Check out the Beastie Boys’ video for “No Sleep ‘Til Brooklyn” below.
