Brooklyn pool parties going national

This year’s lineup of shows at McCarren Park Pool in Brooklyn may be the best yet. The Hold Steady played a rainy show this weekend, but future (hopefully drier) shows include appearances from Liars, Fuck Buttons, Ween, the Breeders, MGMT, and the Black Lips. The shows are held in a disused swimming pool in Greenpoint, but with the space being returned to its former glory, the organizers of the concerts now have to look elsewhere for a new venue.

And the good news, according to this Gothamist interview, is that the shows are going national. Sarah Hopper, who works for the JellyNYC organization, says: “Instead of the whole typical tour idea or NY/LA/Chicago route, we are going to be focusing more on communities that have a similar feel and vibe to the parts of Williamsburg we love.” Brooklynites needn’t despair, as Hopper is also feeling out some new spaces in the borough for next year, with the most likely location being the Bushwick Inlet Park waterfront.
