Broken Social Scene scores film

Via: Chart Attack
Apparently for Broken Social Scene, "Hiatus" means, "We're going to concentrate on scoring films." Even though you won't hear a new Broken Social Scene album anytime soon, you can hear the score the band created for the new film, The Tracey Fragments.
The film, directed by Bruce McDonald, will premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival, which runs February 8-18. The film is baed on the 1998 novel of the same name, written by Maureen Medved. When asked about the project, BSS frontman Kevin Drew said: "That's the direction we're heading in. When you have kids and homes, you don't want to make your living touring. Plus, I came into all this trying to do music for films."

I notice on ads now for Half Nelson coming out on DVD that BSS did the score for that film as well. Was that widely known at the time the film came out and I just missed it?

Well, it's a half truth. The band didn't score the film, but music from their albums was used to score the film. With this project, I'm assuming, it's all new material.

I'll take any new music from them in any format... They didn't score "Half Nelson" but their music certainly helped that movie's overall feel.

Any word of a Kevin Drew solo record?
