As projected, Britney Spears’ Circus has claimed the top album spot from Kanye West’s 808’s and Heartbreak, selling 505,000 copies in its first week out. Kanye’s album slides all the way to number four with 142,000 copies sold.
Taylor Swift’s Fearless stayed strong at number two, and Beyonce’s I Am Sasha Fierce… made a surprise jump to number three. Last week’s number three, Guns N’ Roses’ Chinese Democracy, has dropped completely out of the top ten, being beaten by Nickleback (number five), the Twilight soundtrack (six), Akon (seven), the High School Musical III soundtrack (eight), Now 29 (nine), and David Cook (number ten).
It’s not clear where Chinese Democracy will end up in the Top 200 yet, but it’s had a dizzying fall for an album that was expected to be huge. [Billboard]
