Britney to top the charts?
According to ''"industry insiders,''" Spears''' new long player Blackout is very much expected to debut at #1 upon its arrival on October 30th''with predictions of sales in the range of 200,000-300,000 units for its first week.
And yet according to these same insiders, the reviews may not be in quite as forgiving a mood:
''"Some critics who have heard her latest opus say the album's likely success has little to with her abilities and more to do with the producers,''" warns the article. It goes on to cite the New York Daily News, who recently noted that Spears''' vocals on Blackout sound like a ''"Brit-Bot''" machine.
Gotta get me one of those. [Reuters]

i'd argue that a lot has changed since the last time (4 years ago) she put out an lp. for one, she's pretty much hung teenpop out to dry at this point, and you have to figure that that's a big chunk of her sales. second, she's a singles artist (and save for maybe "toxic," a bad one at that) in the ipod age, so already she's behind the 8ball. unless you either *are* a phenomenon, or are directly following up an album that was one... 300k seems like, in this day and age, a pretty sound guess at your positive asymptote. oh, and ya: that song. [shudders.] that awful, awful, song. |

i agree that times have changed and she's not the star she once was, but her current single was a hit and what artists are bigger than her. Kanye sold almost a million, 50 sold more than 500K i believe. Britney at 200-300K doesn't seem like much. |

Ran across this randomly looking for sales numbers. I can tell you for sure here in Manhattan...for the last months...her Gimme More track has been everywhere..she might sell 300k here alone...remeber to she is workdwide..not a local star...personally, I can't take to much..but as a DJ of 15+ years, I gotta say Gimme more and Fire and Ice are both floor stompers..way more people ask for them than Kanye or 50's tracks...which are stormers too... |

Well, let's take a look at Britney's previous album sales. All 4 of her previous studio albums debut at #1 which continues to be a record for a female artist. Oops i did it again has the record for biggest one week sales for a female EVER with 1.3 million, while Britney the album sold 745,000 and In the Zone sold a little over 600,000. ...Baby one more time did not have a big opening week but it stayed at #1 for 6 weeks. I think that over 300,000 would be good for blackout, under would not. I am hoping that it will be closer to 400,000 |

200K-300K isn't much for Britney and if she sells closer to 200K, I don't believe she's guaranteed the #1 spot. According to Hits Daily Double, Carrie Underwood just sold 537K her first week, so depending on how much sales drop off, Carrie could be a contender for the number one spot again. |

it'll be a news story if she does hit #1, but 200 - 300K for her isn't actually too much
