The annual Brit Awards have been announced, with nominations for Arcade Fire, Vampire Weekend, and The xx among the list. It’s a mystery how the latter got nominated, as their album technically came out in 2009, but there’s no doubt some baffling methodology at work that justifies their place in the British Group category.
Arcade Fire is up for the International Group and International Album awards, and Vampire Weekend is also up for that International Group category. The rest of the list, which you can read over at the official Brits site, is pretty much a snooze, and will probably rival the Grammys in the bone-aching boredom stakes.
There is some good news, however: NME reports that some pranksters hacked the Brits website yesterday, and voting for Best British Single was suddenly altered to take out the likes of Tinie Tempah and Matt Cardle and instead urged people to vote for tracks by Aphex Twin, Deadmau5, and Fake Blood. Sadly, order has since been restored to the site.
