Brian Williams Takes Break from Swine Flu Reportage to Interview Deer Tick (Video)

NBC's Brian Williams, aka the best anchor on a network news show, has launched an incredibly awkward titled web segment, BriTunes, that finds the anchor chillaxing with whatever indie rock band he has come 'round his way. The first episode features Deer Tick, but the segment is clearly more of an advertisement for iTunes than for Deer Tick, since Williams randomly asks them about how iTunes has impacted their career. But whatevz, at least he let the Deer Tick dudes make jokes about knocking up groupies.

As an aside, some of you may remember that ABC has their own indie rock segment titled Amplified, hosted by Dan Harris. After Williams's segment aired yesterday, Harris took to the Amplified blog to get gully on Williams for jocking his segment.

I notice that the anchorman from our cross-town rival, NBC, has started up a new music show -- a "web experiment" -- called BriTunes. (In his defense, he insists he didn't come up with that name.) Having covered indie rock here on Amplified for the last five months, I welcome Mr. Williams to the game.

Harris's post then offers five things for WIlliams to know, mainly to drop this gem:

1.) It's sorta cool to try to appeal to the 18-34 demo, even if you are no longer in it. However, signing off as "BriWi" may be pushing it.

Oh shit! Third degree burn, amirite? ABC-NBC smackdown! Someone call Jon Stewart to be a special guest referee! [via Daily Swarm]

A lot of these journalists are friends, and the media just likes to stir it up! Competition is a good thing, anyway. Gives people incentive to do better, and we all win.
