Break Out Your Wranglers: Best Country Covers Of Pop Songs

It’s not super hip to admit you like country music, mostly because the genre has lately been associated with a lot jingoism and syrupy sentimentality. That said, there are a lot of wonderful country performers. If you want to check them out without having to worry about your ears being assaulted by a patriot missile or sad story about a beloved childhood dog, check out this list of country performers singing rock songs. The obvious ones are here, like Johnny Cash singing NiN’s “Hurt,” and the Dixie Chicks covering “Landslide,” and there are also some new finds, such as The Gourds doing a version of Snoop Dogg’s “Gin and Juice.” If you want to go a little further, you could also check out Uncle Tupelo’s country version of “I Wanna Be Your Dog,” Emmylou Harris singing “When I Paint My Masterpiece,” and Steve Earle doing “I’m Looking Through You.” There is also this uber-sweet bluegrass version of “Paradise City.”[Buzzfeed]
