Seemingly oblivious to the fact that Skrillex and Deadmau5 are filling stadiums that once could only be flooded by rock fans, Brandon Flowers of The Killers recently mouthed off on dance music and rock n' roll alike. In an interview with Shortlist, Flowers gloated that no music under the entire dance umbrella could ever hold a candle to his own hits. Said Flowers: "Dance music cannot compete with a really great rock n' roll song. There ain't no DJ that's gonna play something that can take 'Mr Brightside' or 'Don't Look Back In Anger'. Those songs are better than that."
Flowers also lamented the mediocrity of the contemporary guitar rock scene. "Guitar bands aren't writing songs. Write a fucking song, get over yourself. There aren't any. Where are they?" he said. I don't know, Brandon. Maybe you have to look further than your adult contemporary radio station to find them these days. If only there were some kind of network that people could use to discover new music from all over the world. [NME]
