Bradford Cox brings leak drama to a close

Another day, another Bradford Cox story. The Deerhunter frontman can’t keep out of the headlines at present, but this time he’s responding to the furor that exploded on his blog over the weekend. To recap: some rare and unmastered Deerhunter and Atlas Sound tracks were mistakenly leaked by Cox, causing him to lash out in anger at those who were downloading the songs.

Now Cox has issued a statement on the Deerhunter blog, apologizing for his reaction to the saga and stating that he is “very grateful for the fact that people want to hear my music and the music we make with Deerhunter.” He also makes it clear that he’s not angry at people for downloading the songs. “I’d probably do the same thing,” says Cox.

It also seems like he'll be taking a break from the Internet for a while, and will finish Atlas Sound’s Logos album, which he threatened to stop working on after the incident. All the Paypal donations sent by folks who felt a little guilty have also been refunded. Finally, Cox swears that the whole incident wasn’t a publicity stunt, although he seems painfully aware that people will perceive it as such. “I am seriously ending all bad vibes here,” he says. The full statement can be read here.
