Borat To Play Freddie Mercury In Biopic

Here’s your “so crazy it must be true” news item of the day: Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen has reportedly signed on to star as Freddie Mercury in a biopic about the Queen frontman. The film is written by Peter Morgan, who wrote biopics about Idi Amin (Last King of Scotland) and the Queen (The Queen). The movie reportedly will end with the band’s performance at 1985’s Live Aid, which is okay, but how hard would it be to extend it six years to include Mercury’s death from AIDS in 1991? We could be talking some seriously meaty emotional beats for Cohen to have to hit. He could pull down an Oscar. Which would be nuts considering he’s made a living running around naked in front of strangers (pretty much). [Billboard]
