Next Wednesday, the BBC will broadcast "American David," a fourteen minute poem that U2 frontman Bono composed about Elvis. Though Bono professes to be a huge fan, he doesn't pull many punches when it comes to the less savory side of the King:
"Elvis the bumper stickers / Elvis the white knickers / Elvis the white nigger ate at Burger King and just kept getting bigger"
In response, I have written a verse response of my own:
U2 used to be a pretty good band
I was even somewhat of a fan
Then Bono got strange
Overextended his range
With a poem about Elvis that sucked
See! Not all poems have to rhyme! Currently there are no plans for a stateside broadcast, but how could Burger King pass up the tie-in opportunities? [NME]
