Bonnie "Prince" Billy prepares to Lie Down in the Light

Will Oldham has carved out a career that is littered with esoteric ventures into the avant-garde, odd acting roles, and increasingly strange facial hair. In fact, the Louisville native has gradually transformed into an artist who has the enviable luxury of recording a few scratchy seven-inch singles while also being courted by mainstream artists such as Bjork and Johnny Cash. He’s even appeared in a Kanye West video (see below).

Buried deep in the latest news update from Drag City is advance word on a new album under Oldham’s Bonnie “Prince” Billy moniker. There aren’t many details yet, but the record will be titled Lie Down in the Light and it’s due out in May. The good folks at the label have also provided us with a demo of a typically somber Oldham track called “So Everyone.” In the meantime, here’s the Kanye video, which features fields of cows, Oldham in a fetching pair of red shorts, and comedian Zach Galifianakis doing his best impression of the rap star.
