Bonnie "Prince" Billy Changes Spelling, Adds Some Metaphysical Bluegrass to New Live Set

Say what you will about Bonnie "Prince" Billy being inscrutable, one thing he'll never be accused of is being afraid to take a step out toward Edge City. His latest foray is a live album that pairs him with The Picket Line, a bluegrass group that bills itself as "the official dance band of Funtown, a metaphysical little community on the outskirts of Louisville." In case the addition of bluegrass doesn't seem adventurous enough, Oldham has changed the usual spelling of "Bonnie" to "Bonny." Nothing says experimentation like making a 'y" behave like a vowel. The pairing will release Funtime Comedown, a live collection of Oldham standards, later this year.[Pitchfork]

The album sounds promising.. and "y" could use the linguistic confidence boost..

This is not a change of spelling - it has always been spelled with a 'y' when the 'Prince' part is ommitted. See the releases from 2000-1 for examples.
