It's true. In an interview with Pitchfork, Bon Iver's Justin Vernon confirmed the rumor that he worked with Kanye West on "at least ten songs," at least one of which will be on Kanye's new album.
Kanye initially got in touch with Vernon about using a sample of Blood Bank's "Woods" and laying down some vocals for a song called "Lost in the World." Obviously, dude said yes, and then he went to meet Yeezy at the studio in Hawaii. It went well, and Vernon returned for a second stint, during which he played basketball with Kanye and helped out on a number of other songs, alongside people like Nicki Minaj, John Legend, Pete Rock and A-Trak.
Also, this happened:
I was literally in the back room rolling a spliff with Rick Ross talking about what to do on the next part of a song. It was astonishing.
Which, is almost too ridiculous to be real, right? How did the world not implode at that moment?
Vernon, for obvious resons, had an awesome time, and further added to the hype monster: "this next record is more proof that [Kanye]'s not afraid to make a really good hip-hop album that has incredible music on it."
"Woods" sounds something like Imogen Heap's "Hide and Seek," so maybe we can expect something like an upgraded version of Jason Derulo's "Whatcha Say?" Or like Kanye's other collaborations with breathy pop singers, Chris Martin and Maroon 5's Adam Levine?
The album, which is still unnamed, is due out in November. Maybe.
You should read the full interview over at Pitchfork, because it's all pretty nuts.
