Blur and Suede are duking it out for headlines today—it’s like the glory days of Britpop all over again. Damon Albarn’s band are in the news primarily because the documentary about the band, No Distance Left to Run, premiered in London last night, and has now been set for a DVD release.
All four members showed up to the event in Leicester Square, which is now going to be shown in a limited run in the UK. No North American release date has yet been set, but the DVD will swiftly be available in Britain on Feb. 15. The two-disc set will be packed full of extras, including a full concert from the band’s reunion in Hyde Park last summer.
Meanwhile, Albarn has been talking up a storm, saying of Britpop: "That whole period of a lot of people's lives was fairly muddied by heroin,” and adding that he suffered panic attacks at the height of the band’s fame. And, naturally, he couldn’t resist talking about his old nemesis in Oasis: "Noel used to take the piss out of me constantly and it really, really hurt at the time,” he said. “Oasis were like the bullies I had to put up with at school."
