There are already many mouthwatering reasons to check out Record Store Day on April 17—not least of which is the simple chance to support your local independent record store. But the exclusive items being sold on the day are now mounting up, and the news that a new Blur single will be issued is perhaps the best offer yet.
"We want independent record store to continue, they're an important part of our musical culture," said Damon Albarn. "Music is a simple way for Blur to show our support and we hope people like it." The songs were recorded two weeks ago, which indicates the band is still a going concern, and are as-yet untitled.
The Blur single will be a limited edition 7-inch single, and ties in with other releases from the band’s label mates on EMI—Hot Chip, Lily Allen and the Beatles will all have similar efforts in stores on April 17. Naturally, this is going to lead to speculation about more Blur reunion shows. Perhaps they will head over for some North American dates this time?
