Blur drummer confirms: there IS power in a union

The Featured Artists' Coalition (FAC), which formed in October and is led by Blur drummer Dave Rowntree, Radiohead guitarist Ed O' Brien and singer Kate Nash among others, has just come out with its first newsletter.

Rowntree, who is also a prospective Labour Party MP, set out the demands of the union in this first communique. These demands include the legal assurance that artists receive payments should their music be used on DVDs, an unresolved issue until now due to a legal loophole.

The FAC claims 700 artists, and will have their first official meeting in February in London. This is probably not the crowd  with which Billy Bragg sympathizes, but I can't help but wonder if his music will be playing in the background of that get-together.
