Blender magazine picks Tupac as the most overrated artist of all time

Since former Rolling Stone big cheese Joe Levy took the helm over at Blender, the magazine hasn’t had much in the way of snarky lists like they used to. According to a Reuters report, that’s fit to change with their October issue, which features a list of the most overrated things related to music. What’s Blender’s pick for the most overrated? One Tupac Shakur.

The list reportedly also features The Grammy’s at number 7 (yawn), encores at number 12 (shrug), and Pink Floyd at number 14 (that one I’ll buy). But picking Tupac at number one is as pandering as the Palin pick (oooh, burn): it seems like a sad attempt to drum up some publicity for the magazine as it struggles to keep pace with Spin and Rolling Stone. Plus, you can’t really call it a hip-hop bias considering Lil Wayne was on the cover of the last issue, so there’s something else at play.

My pick for most overrated list of all time: a list of overrated things. [via Nahright]

Wow you guys are really dumb, just because the magazine says that Tupac is most overrated dosn't mean they say he sucks. They say that people make him up to be something he's not. People say that nobody can come close to him. When you have rappers like Nas, Rakim, Kool G Rap, KRS-ONE, Big Daddy Kane, GZA and all those legends.

It's not about being dumb (I have a degree at 21) Pawel. Nas, Rakim... are great rappers and that's it. Pac goes beyond rap. He goes beyond the act of mentioning difficult English terms that are illogical and don't make sense (read Rakim and company). He spoke the truth as explicitly as it was supposed to be told. His true peers are the likes of Che, Malcolm X and Mandela. Musically, only Bob Marley and Elvis (The King) can be mentioned in the same paragraph with him. Peace.
