Black Devil Disco Club Plans New Album “Circus”

The mercurial man/project/unknown known as Black Devil Disco Club often feels like a joke collapsing on itself. Bernard Fevre and Jackie Giordano use pseudonyms and unsuccessfully release an album that becomes a rarity, only to be rediscovered over 25 years later. The names alone belong in a Peter Sellers film. Yet the dark, murky take on disco is so good.

The project was revived in the mid-’00s and more albums, the most recent of which 2008’s Eight Oh Eight, was meant to be the last part of a trilogy. Now the group appears to be returning with a fourth album Circus to be released on April 12, 2011.

The album lives up to its name with a parade of guests, including Afrika Bambaataa, Nancy Sinatra, Faris Badwan (the Horrors and the more recent Cat's Eyes), Claire Evans (YACHT), Aja Emma (Cosmetics), CocknBullKid, Nancy Fortune, Jo Apps and (drumroll) Jon Spencer!
