Birdman's recent signing of Limp Bizkit to Cash Money seemed like an elaborate troll job, a way for Birdman to keep himself in the news anyway possible, gaining lifeblood from a dried up husk of a commercial band. But according to a recent interview with XXL, Birdman is hoping to expand Cash Money's artist base to every genre, and he's even hoping to end up with a country act.
“I think bringing Fred and Limp Bizkit to the team gives us a different look,” Birdman says. “We dominate rap, but we’re also trying to grow in different areas; Pop, rock, gospel, country. We’re a brand and we don’t want to be categorized as one type of brand,” Stunna continued. “I think we’re a machine and we activate and were active as a machine. I thought this Limp Bizkit move would be big for us as a brand and a machine.”
What's crazier, is that Cash Money has 16 albums(!) on tap for 2012, which is a ridiculous amount of albums. That includes records from Lil Twist, Bow Wow, Nicki Minaj, Tyga, and from recent Cash Money signees, Mystikal and Busta Rhymes. Birdman didn't say that a Lil Wayne album is on tap, so look out for some random different signings later this year probably too. [XXL]
