Billy Bragg and Kate Nash Perform Amid G20 Protests in London

Clashes between riot police and protesters have severely curtailed the plans of musicians who were hoping to perform at today’s G20 protests in London. The economic crisis is the central topic for the Group of 20 world leaders, which is taking place while protesters such as this guy are enduring a bloody afternoon. This excellent photo gallery on the Guardian’s website offers further insight.

Meanwhile, Billy Bragg, Kate Nash and Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly have performed significantly reduced sets amid the protesters. Their performances took place just before 1pm, but a suitable sound system was unavailable, meaning they had to perform acoustically.

Bragg and his cohorts were due to perform in close proximity to the Bank of England, which was presumably under heavy guard after a branch of the Royal Bank of Scotland incurred the wrath of the gathered crowds. NME is also reporting that Roughton “Rou” Reynolds of British post-hardcore band Enter Shikari is among a number of protesters currently being detained by police. [ NME ]
