If you've ever read Chuck Klosterman's superlative profile of Billy Joel, you know that the guy is more interesting than just being known for "Piano Man." Which is why HarperCollins was going to give him a bunch of money for his autobiography, which would touch on his marriage to Christie Brinkley, and maybe, the horrible genesis of "We Didn't Start the Fire." But apparently Joel just backed out of the deal, citing a general unwillingness to bring up the past. Apparently he didn't realize that writing an autobiography would require him to think about himself at least semi-critically. He has reportedly resolved to let the music do the talking for him.
