Bill Callahan (Smog) to release new album

Take one long last look at that Smog in parentheses up there, because it's being put to rest. For reasons not fully known, singer-songwriter Bill Callahan is doing away with the Smog moniker and will now release albums under his own name. The first of these will be Woke on a Whaleheart, out April 17 on Drag City. The album will feature production help from Neal Michael Haggerty and backing vocals from various gospel singers. First single "Diamond Dancer," with non-album B-side "Taken," will precede the album on March 20. Continue on after the jump for a full track list.
Is he still with Joanna Newsom? Lucky cat. She's a cutey. Even if she is very likely from another planet.

He had the name Smog for, what, almost 20 years? What does it matter the namewritten on the album cover anyway? It's the music that matters. Maybe he wants to try something different after 20 years!!!
