A new documentary will offer a look at the all-too-short life of the immensely talented, incredibly prolific Jay Reatard, who died early last year. Better than Something: Jay Reatard, will begin making the rounds at two Tennessee film festivals next month. The film, according to a synopsis, will feature “never-before-seen footage” of performances and interviews with Jay, as well as insights from “colleagues, friends, and family” about the garage-punk icon’s life and times. The first screening of the film, directed by Alex Hammond and Ian Markiewicz (who were also behind Waiting for Something, a short 2009 documentary about Jay), will be held at On Location: Memphis International Film and Music Fest, which lasts April 7-10. A second screening will take place at the Nashville Film festival, April 14-21.
