Beth Ditto: "Fat People Shouldn't Do Drugs"

Beth Ditto has been talking to the Times in London ahead of the release of the Gossip’s upcoming album, Music For Men. The singer speaks of her problems with the fashion industry—apparently Karl Lagerfeld asked her to play a party despite refusing to make clothes of women her size—and also talks about her drug use (or lack of it).

Despite being friends with Kate Moss and touring constantly with her band, Ditto is adamant that artificial stimulants are kept firmly hidden from sight. “Nobody ever talks about fat in front of me at fashion stuff,” she says. “It’s the same way I never see people do drugs when I’m on tour.”

Apparently this is a health issue for Ditto, who says: “I did ecstasy once — and it ruled — but fat people shouldn’t do drugs. Fat people should certainly not do cocaine. It’s not that they’re all unhealthy, but it can be hard on your body, on your heart, so you have to accept you can’t do certain things. I don’t want to die when I’m 38. It’s not worth it.”

I'm confused. Also I'm so sick of dance punk. It's been almost ten years. I mean c'mon!

I was wondering what her reason would be... “I did ecstasy once — and it ruled — but fat people shouldn’t do drugs. Fat people should certainly not do cocaine. It’s not that they’re all unhealthy, but it can be hard on your body, on your heart, so you have to accept you can’t do certain things. I don’t want to die when I’m 38. It’s not worth it.”

People can do what ever they want, because later or sooner they are going to realize that what they did is wrong. Especially when it comes to drugs they should already know the consequences of the risk that you are putting yourself in.
