Beth Ditto Calls Katy Perry “Offensive to Gay Culture”

The Gossip’s Music for Men is due on June 23 in the U.S., and singer Beth Ditto has kicked the promotional machine into gear by taking a few pot shots at Katy Perry. Ditto was talking to the British gay magazine Attitude, during which she slammed Perry for her faux lesbian stance on the hit single, “I Kissed a Girl.”

“I hate Katy Perry,” said Ditto. “She’s offensive to gay culture, I’m so offended.” Perry’s bi-curiosity may have translated to huge sales, but she has managed to offend moral crusaders and the gay community in one fell swoop. Ditto calls the song a “boner dyke anthem for straight girls who like to turn guys on by making out or, like, faking gay.”

Ditto continues: “She’s just riding on the backs of our culture without having to pay any of the dues and not being actually lesbian or anything at all.” The song is now a year old but continues to gain column inches for Perry, who is no doubt delighted by all the publicity it has generated.
