Bernard Sumner of New Order Attacked by a Shark

Bernard Sumner has a new album due with his band Bad Lieutenant, but that was the last thing on his mind during a recent sailing trip with his family in Scotland. The former New Order singer was taking a yacht out to the island of Barra when his boat suddenly had a collision with one of the most terrifying creatures of the deep.

"I had a collision with a 30 ft shark,” he said. “The boat nearly sank and there was a big imprint of a huge shark in the paint on its bottom. There was this God-almighty crash, like I'd hit rocks. I checked the charts and there were no rocks, so I called the coastguard and he said other boats that had been up there that morning had reported six large sharks in that part of the sea.”

“My family were in bed, so I was pulling the floorboards up every 10 minutes to see if we'd taken on water,” said Sumner. The Bad Lieutenant album, Never Cry Another Tear, is due out next week, and this might be the most bizarre piece of promo Sumner’s ever done during his three decades in the business.

Sounds as though his boat may have hit a basking shark, which is a harmless, plankton eater. Attack??

What a load of sensationalistic claptrap, its fanciful stories such as this that give poor sharks such a bad name, and real sailors this guy is only looking for publicity for his crappie new album.
Certainly sounds as if he has had about 25mins sailing experience, no wonder the government wants to legislate against one of the few freedoms we have left when plonkers like this go to sea.
