Belkin rolls out TuneStudio four-channel mixer

Four channels was good enough for DJ Shadow to get started, and now members of the iPod generation can get their very own mixing board.
The TuneStudio features XLR inputs and lots of knobs for those who like to fiddle with physical adjustments rather than a software solution like GarageBand. Output to the iPod is limited to finished sessions though: You'll be outputting a two-channel recording onto your fifth-generation iPod. It's a little gimmicky but fairly portable, and it comes at a price of $180.
Belkin was also showing off its TuneStage 2, a bluetooth transmitter/receiver pair for streaming iPod music to a stereo wirelessly. Bluetooth streaming kills battery life, so Belkin thoughtfully added a USB port on the bottom so you can charge the iPod without interrupting the tunes. The price will be $149 for the set.

I see the gimmicky aspect, but pretty cool for people that just want a simple thing to mess with.

it only works with fifth generation ipods?

yup, 5G. Don't know if there's a technical reason (faster dock interface perhaps?) or they figure the demographics for people needing a mixer intersects with video iPods.

whoops. Melody Chalaban (or someone claiming to be her), PR manager for Belkin, posted on Crave that the 2G Nano will work, although it won't fit flush with the unit. Don't say I never do any research for you guys. And ... your computer can be used to record the session (multitrack or stereo recording, not sure) over USB, or can be used as a fifth channel. Breaking news!
