
Beef died a justified death as a harmless cultural curiosity after the deaths of Tupac and Biggie, but a sudden argument between rappers with albums coming out is still viewed as a viable means of awareness raising. In this age of of the corporate beef, the recent flap between Young Jeezy and Rick Ross has the rare scent of genuineness. Though New York points out that both rappers are on Def Jam, have collaborated in the past, and that Young Jeezy is dropping an album, it also notes that these facts pale in comparison to the naked truth: "both are of a similar ilk — doughy, Southern rappers obsessed with cocaine — but while Jeezy was on the scene first, Ross has at this point arguably eclipsed him in popularity and general acclaim."
