Beck to perform with dad at Hollywood Bowl

When Beck Hansen (born Beck David Campbell) burst onto the music scene in 1994, part of the hype was that he was a slacker from a musical family who combined all the sounds he came across in kaleidescope fashion (the word "kaleidescope" is now forbidden from all Beck articles under penalty of death). But we haven't heard much from Beck's pa, despite his work on recordings by everyone from Marvin Gayue to the Stones to the Mars Volta. On September 20th, however, David Campbell will join his son Beck on stage at the Hollywood Bowl as he conducts the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra Strings that will back Beck. It will be the first time the two have shared the stage together, and let's hope there are no pseudo-Oedipal battles over the microphone.
