Beck, Pixies and No Age Pay Tribute to Jay Reatard

· by

Few details have emerged about Jay Reatard’s sad passing, which was announced yesterday (Jan. 13). All that’s known so far is that the singer’s roommate found him in the early hours of Tuesday (Jan. 12) morning, after he apparently died in his sleep. Now, former colleagues of Reatard's have been paying tribute.

Over at Beck’s official website, his cover of “Sea Change” is currently streaming, while the Pixies, whom Reatard toured with recently, have left the following statement on Facebook: “We want to express our condolences to the friends and family of Jay Reatard, on his sudden passing today.”

Meanwhile, No Age have posted a photo tribute on their official blog, which has pictures of them all hanging out together. Expect further speculation, clarification and rumor to emerge over the coming days—in the meantime, head over to the Daily Swarm, who are collecting many of the reports about the singer's passing.

Truly sad. A great song writer and s***-stirrer lost. Nobody can replace his prolific output and intensity. Time to go back and listen.

P.s. it's actually a cover of "Gamma Ray." I would also tell everyone to check out Jay's cover of "In Heaven" from David Lynch's Eraserhead (it was also covered by the Pixies).
