As all the world obsesses over Beck's new album Modern Guilt, we learn that the dream team collaboration of Beck and DJ Danger Mouse was originally only consigned to the album's opener, "Orphans." Once that track was recorded, however, both artists saw there was a whole album to be made out of the collaboration and took it from there.
Beck told BBC 6 Music that he and Brian Burton "were already friends," but Burton's prior commitments initially prevented him from full-time work on the albums. Beck also talks of how Danger Mouse's background in hip hop and electronica meshed with his background in folk and singer-songwriter. I had been rooting for this collaboration for years, with the only better collaboration imaginable being Beck and Brian Eno (fingers crossed).
