This isn't part of Beck's "record club," in which he and some musician buddies record an entire cover album in one day. No, this is far more low-tech. Beck's version of the groundbreaking EVOL will be part of some as-yet-unnamed Sonic Youth box set, and will be on cassette. Cassettes, you may recall, are slightly larger than an iPod and hold only one album of music. Your parents may still have some, or your edgy, Luddite punk-rock friends.
It's an appropriate choice, as Beck has recently covered another seminal alternative album, The Velvet Underground and Nico. Also, Beck's voice is not too far from either Thurston Moore's or Kim Gordon's. To keep up with the latest in Beck cover songs visit his website, which is currently releasing a song a day from the Velvet Underground covers.
