In the simple days before the Internet, "Wiki" was shorthand for the sound of a record being scratched. Then things got heady, and the term came to signify scattered streams of loosely connected information.
Now, the online electronic music hub Beatport finds some common lexical ground, establishing a comprehensive user-generated source for artist and record label info. The so-called BeatWiki contains nearly 80,000 pages of biographies, photos, and news, and can be edited and updated by all registered members. The project is ambitious, sure, but it just might work: electronic music fans are nothing if not well organized.
Awesome, thanks for the info! Will definitely check out.
