Who knows what effect this would have had on the recording of the legendary Revolver, but it sure as hell is fun speculate. The Beatles were scheduled to record the album -- universally considered a turning point in their career -- at Mecca Stax studio in April 1966, but the trip was cancelled due to security concerns, Gigwise reports.
Instead they recorded it at that other legendary studio, Abbey Road studios in London.
Deanie Parker, the former publicist for Mecca Stax, told Mojo that the band had a two-week session booked at the studio. "I was seeing dollar signs. I talked to (Stax founder) Jim Stewart and said, 'If The Beatles do come, will you give me permission to take the carpet up, cut it into squares and sell it?'" he told Mojo. And a claim is made that Elvis Presley had offered the band accommodation during their stay. [Gigwise]
