Beatles: Lost Scottish interview from 1964

It's the kind of story that makes every owner of a crappy British flat check their storage (and draws the attention of Beatles history freaks everywhere). A man in an old, musty South London home rummages through his basement, and finds a long lost interview with the Beatles, the oldest long form interview known to exist.

The exceedingly dusty film cannister (now rigidly preserved) contains an interview with a Glasgow television station at the height of Beatlemania, with the band fresh off filming A Hard Day's Night and still getting use to their astronomical fame. The interview was played on BBC4 radio earlier today, and the interview is still playable online. It's is a legitimately fascinating recording, with the band still sounding like a young, fresh rock stars, with their characters already on display. It helps that one of the leading Fab Four scholars in Mark Lewisohn provides commentary. [BBC4]
