Beach Boys Rumor Goes Kaput, Brian Wilson Will Not Rejoin For 50th Anniversary Tour Dates

Earlier in the week, Beach Boys fans the world over waited with baited breath for confirmation of a rumor stating that former singer / lead songwriter Brian Wilson would reunite with his former band in celebration of their upcoming 50th anniversary. Not to burst anyone’s beachy bubble, but multiple news platforms are now reporting that the rumor is in fact false.

Current Beach Boys singer Mike Love released a statement to the press on the boys’ website:

“The Beach Boys continue to tour approximately 150 shows a year in multiple countries. At this time there are no plans for my cousin Brian to rejoin the tour. He has new solo projects on the horizon and I wish him love and success. We have had some discussions of writing and possibly recording together, but nothing has been planned. I, as I’m sure he is, am proud and honored that the Beach Boys music has endured these 50 years, but felt the need to clarify that there are no current ‘reunion’ tour plans.”

The rumors initially began when Love told a Las Vegas Sun reporter the following: “Now we’re gearing up for the 50th anniversary, and Brian Wilson, who has been working on some unfinished Gershwin music project, will rejoin us.”

Guess Love should’ve checked with Wilson before making such a frenzy-laden statement. Anyway, ten bucks says a Facebook group petitioning for Wilson’s return crops up in under 12 hours. Because apparently that’s how things get accomplished these days. [CoS]
