Beach Boys Movie Musical Underway

Surf rock fans, rejoice! Next year marks the Beach Boys' 50th anniversary, and while there is no confirmed reunion in the works, the Hollywood Reporter is confirming a movie musical in development that is set to the score of "America's Beatles."

Much like everyone's favorite ABBA-inspired musical, "Mama Mia!" (I'm sure there are others), the Beach Boys' songs will be used to tell a fictional story, one more than likely about Dudes and Bettys in love, trying to catch the perfect wave and wearing Hollister clothing. Judging by "Mama Mia!"'s fun take on moms who like to sleep around, production company Fox and producer John Stamos (Uncle Jesse!) will probably try to sneak around the band's more tragic storylines like fighting, drug abuse, mental illness and death.

Also producing are Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, the same team that responsible for "Footloose" and "Hairspray." Filming for the project is set to start in April 2011.
