Be Your Own Pet breaking up, play final U.K. shows

Dammit. Just as Be Your Own Pet was establishing itself as one of the best pure rock bands in the world, we get news that the band will soon be no more. Stereogum reports on the following message on BYOP's Myspace page:

To all of our fans,

We are sad to bring you the news that our upcoming shows in the UK (dates below) are going to be our last as a band. We thank you for all your love and support these past few years - its been a blast but the time has come for the 4 of us to go our separate ways.

22 August: Reading Festival - Reading, UK
23 August: Leeds Festival - West Yorkshire, UK
25 August: Carling Academy 2 - Liverpool, UK
26 August: Dingwalls - London, UK

It's almost guaranteed that we'll be seeing more from the band members in the future–they're still not legally old enough to drink (like that's ever stopped them), and they all have side projects. But this is still frustrating news. Universal may be to blame, what with the  self-censorship and misguided marketing of the band. Shit shit shit.

This is crappy news, but maybe not all that unexpected.

Get famous, break up. This makes sense.
