What do we know about the new album by math-rockers Battles? Details have been scant so far, but it was revealed that the band has been recording in Times Square in New York, and that drummer John Stanier has been using his downtime from the studio by playing with the Field.
Now, we’re set to get a real taste of that new material via a couple of low key shows from the band. Battles will play on Oct. 25 at Le Poisson Rouge in New York City, and at the Forum in London as part of the ATP sponsored “Release the Bats” series shortly afterwards on Oct. 30.
Stanier may be due for a reunion with Field mainman Axel Willner in London, as he is also playing the event, along with Portishead offshoot project BEAK>. Battles have described their new music as “magnanimous”—an intriguing descriptor to attach to the album, which is set for release before the end of 2010.
